It was coming towards the end of 2019 and I’d just started a personal growth program online; my first. The first challenge was to come up with an “Impossible Goal.” This sounded like an oxymoron and an exercise in futility, but I played along and decided on creating an online course. It would take many months before I fleshed out my reasons and well beyond that before I understood the importance of completing this project.
Here are my reasons:
#1. I want to help more people.
I’d been wrestling with the question of how to help more people as my business narrowed over the years as a result of not overworking as I once did and higher fees. My passion for helping others has always been strong, and it’s been unsettling to not be able to fulfill that desire the way I wanted without it being at the expense of my own mental health. So the idea of creating a course seemed the perfect way to satisfy this internal desire while hopefully meeting an external need.
#2. To walk my talk.
I encourage my clients to grow, to lean into what they’re afraid of so they can learn what they are capable of and build trust in themselves. I’m committed to never asking my clients to do anything I wouldn’t do and I’ve stepped up my game in this area. What I offer and expect of my clients goes beyond talking and empathy. My clients work hard both in and out of sessions and I have deep respect for their willingness to confront their pain with vulnerability and face their fears with courage. I admire each and every person I work with and they deserve my best.
#3. I believe life is 50/50; half positive and half negative.
As one of my teachers says, the flavors change but the ratio stays the same. I’ve also noticed that looking for ways to avoid the negative only seems to dish out more in the long run! So I figure if the negative stuff is happening no matter what, I might as look for ways to have it on my own terms . At least doing so helps me evolve, rather than keeping me spinning in the same familiar flavor of discomfort.
So fast forward to now…my course is called Chaos To Control: How To Get Your Brain To Stop Spinning. I help you do just that is just a matter of weeks. The course is currently offered at certain times during the year. I’m very proud of my creation. I’ve learned and grown a lot in the process of bringing it into the world. I was really starting from scratch and knew nothing about online business so the learning curve was steep But I love the result and what it offers. Feeling helpful and contributory is a passion for me and this was a wonderful catalyst to challenge myself and give as much value to others as possible.
